LENT: A Time for Prayer & A Time for Worship
We continue our journey towards the cross through the month of March. It is our hope that on a daily basis, you are making use of your free copy of the Presbyterians Today 2018 Lenten Devotional now available from the church office. The devotional includes themes with scripture readings for each of the seven weeks before Easter. From Ash Wednesday to Easter, enjoy the Presbyterian resource for your spiritual development as well as the moments of reflection and discovery this resource offers.
Join us for a Pastor’s exchange on Sunday, March 18. Pastor Joanne will preach at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church and Pastor Henry Sun will preach for the two services at Rockville. It is our hope that our congregations can support and build deeper relationships during the year.
Also we will have a Combined Maundy Thursday Foot-Washing Service and Good Friday Service on Friday March 30 at 7:00 p.m. It will be a unique time to celebrate communion around a table of 12 as Jesus did with his disciples and your leadership will wash your feet. It will be a new and different experience for our Rockville Congregation, yet I encourage you to experience it together as we grow closer to one another and to God during this Lenten season.
Please bring the entire family for an educational and religious experience like no other on Wednesday March 21 at 6:00 p.m. (before session that night). Join us for a modified Seder Celebration, which is the Jewish ritual service and ceremonial dinner observed on the first night or first two nights of Passover and the tradition upon which Jesus established the Lord’s Supper.
The Seder retells the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. The Seder itself is based on the Exodus 13:8, commanding Jews to retell the story of the Exodus from Egypt: “You shall tell your child on that day, it is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.” Traditionally, Seder customs include telling the story, discussing the story, drinking four cups of wine (grape juice), eating matza, partaking of symbolic foods placed on the Passover Seder plate, and celebrating freedom. Pastor Joanne Martindale and Pastor Henry Sun will lead you through a modified Seder and speak to the Christian interpretation of the Seder tradition.
We are trying a few new things at Rockville, so join in the meaningful experiences of the Lenten Season.
Fondly, Pastor Joanne
